On March 22, on the spot of the news conference of the 6th Global Wood Trade Conference, Investment and Development Agency of Latvia announced that they reached cooperation intentions with the organizers again and they will become one of the cooperation supports of the 6th Global Wood Trade Conference after the success of the cooperation in 2015. At the same time, they will unite other local enterprises to participate in the conference  as a delegation. This cooperation will contribute to more timber traders, processors and other wood practitioners to have a better understanding of the wood products from Latvian timber suppliers .

In the last year of the 5th Global Wood Trade Conference, Latvian Investment and Development Agency cooperated with the sponsor as one of the general partners and participated actively in the preparatory process of the conference, which received an ideal and satisfactory results in the end.

The forest resource in Latvia is one of the richest resource in the European. The coverage rate of land and forest accounts for 45% while the timber storage capacity are more than 573 million cubic meters. Forestry and wood processing products are important export products in Latvia, mainly including export sawn timber, log, furniture, plywood, fuel timber, pulp and paper, etc.

According to statistics, the average exports of log from Latvia to China have reached more than 30 million euros over the past two years while the average export amount of sawn timber have reached over 17 million euros. In the last year, the two countries carried out a rail transport cooperation from Latvia to China, which enable Latvia timber and wood products get into Chinese inland market more directly and quickly. The expansion of the business marked a new stage of the timber trade between the two countries .

In the year of 2016, the 6th GWT Conference will be held in Wuhan of Hubei province to follow the national strategy. In this time, Chinese Timber and Wood Products Association will cooperate with the Latvia Investment and Development Department again and have a deeper cooperation.
