Presentation Topic:
Global Fibre and Biomass Markets——Challenges
and Opportunities
Presentation Outline:
Global fibre and biomass markets are undergoing
major changes. The growth of forest product markets, particularly in China and
Asia, is putting an increasingly large pressure on regional and global forest
resources. The key question is how to meet this demand.
Plantation forests have become a major source
of incremental fibre supply. However, competition for land combined with cost
inflation are reducing their competitive advantage, and new solutions for
plantation forestry are required. Russia remains a major untapped resource
basin, but major challenges for increased harvest remain also there.
New forest-based products and bioenergy uses
for wood are developed actively, which increases competition for limited raw
material resources.

The Implementation of Yangtze River Economic Zone and “One Belt, One
Road” National Strategy will provide new opportunities for Middle-China’s international
logistics.
Presentation Outline:
With the background of globalization, China has begun a new round of
opening-up including the implementation
of two national strategies, namely the “One Belt, One Road” and “Promoting the
development of Yangtze River Economic Zone relying on the Golden Waterway”, and Wuhan is an important part of this strategy. Hubei
is located in the center of China, and Wuhan is the geographical center China and the
node city to carry out the two national strategies, bringing major new
development opportunities.
Wuhan Newport is the supporter of Wuhan Yangtze River Shipping Center
construction. It relies on its location advantage linking East and West. It already formed a 100 million tons harbor, achieved million TEUs of
container throughput, which made it the largest throughput of a single port in
the upper and middle Yangtze River, and entered the first square of global
inland river container port. Wuhan is the node port linking river and sea in
the center-west area of Yangtze River Economic Zone and the foreign trade logistics
portal radiating to 6 provinces and numerous cities in the Midwest China.
Wuhan carries out all-around cooperation and communication with the
Volga River, Mississippi River, Rhine River and other basins. Wuhan Newport has
already launched short sea routes to Shanghai Yangshan Port, four ASEAN countries
and Taiwan. Wuhan Newport engages in promoting the strategy of “One Belt, One
Road”, planning the land-sea and river-sea as a whole, constructing the East
linkage in the Midwest and international connections in all directions. The
rail and water multimodal transport “Wuhan Xinjiang and Europe”, which nodes in
Wuhan Newport has already started. The node will be used to transport
high-quality forest and timber industry resources from the Novosibirsk region
in Russia to inland China. This route will transfer to waterway at the Yangluo
port area of Wuhan Newport making Wuhan into the distribution center for Russia
forest products in center-east China. Economic and trade cooperation with surrounding countries through
the “One Belt, One Road” strategy will develop and open up the region. Strengthening the New
Eurasian Land Bridge and the Land-sea and River-sea lines will bring new
opportunities to Wuhan.
