The Finnish Sawmills Association promotes the interests of the independent sawmill industry.Its membership consists of over 30 companies from all over Finland. Finnish sawmills manufacture and market high-quality sawn softwood. Finnish softwood is a versatile, recyclable, and low-carbon raw material with a wide range of applications. Softwood comes from sustainably managed and certified forests.

Finnish sawmill clients include construction, furniture, packaging, and joinery industries, as well as timber retailers and DIY businesses throughout the world. Typical end uses of sawn softwood include interior and exterior cladding, and joinery products such as load-bearing poles, support beams, windows, doors, furniture, transport pallets, and wooden packaging.

 In addition, sawmills produce high-quality woodchips, sawdust and wood-based fuels for the pulp and renewable energy businesses. Finnish sawmill entrepreneurs provide dependable delivery, consistently high quality, and long-term commitment.

WOOD FROM FINLAND program is part of the bio-economy′s national growth program. Sawn timber is Finland′s fourth biggest export product. Through this program the Finnish sawmills would like to introduce themselves to entire Chinese timber trade and further processing industry, present its possibilities and offer new opportunities for long term business.

Finland’s positive wood balanceenables the sawmills to increase their production in the coming years. For time being 10 – 20 percent of the production capacity of sawn timber is not utilized. Finnish wood is slowly grown, durable, straight grained and visually beautiful even for the most demanding visible end-use purposes. Finnish forests are sustainably managed and are part of the PEFC-certification system. This is extremely valuable for the final consumers of timber products and their growing awareness of environmental issues.

The production of the 20 sawmilling companies participating in WOOD FROM FINLAND program corresponds to half of the Finnish sawn timber production. All of them are interested in developing the business in good partnership with Chinese timber importers, distributers, and industrial customers.

Under the guidance by the Department of Development Planning and Finance Management, State Forestry Administration (SFA), and based in the Research Institute of Forestry Policy and Information, Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF), the SFA Research Center for International Forest Product Trade (hereinafter referred as “the center”) is engaged in studying trade policy on forest products, providing technical supports to trade negotiations, promoting trades, etc. It aims at providing suggestions for the decision making related to forest products trade in China, supplying foreign consultancies, building a platform for exchanges among governments, business and domestic and overseas forestry institutions and accelerating the sustainable development of China’s trade in forest products.

The key tasks of the center are:

(1) Studies on policies of forest product trade and forest product markets

(2) Providing technical support for SFA in related international trade negotiations

(3) Building and maintaining the forest products databases and data platform

(4) Monitoring forest product businesses and releasing information on forest products trades

(5) Promoting forest product trades, i.e. organizing symposia, workshops, exhibitions and expositions in China

(6) Providing consulting service of forest product market to the industry

Founded in Paris, France in 1999, PEFC is an international independent, nonprofit, non-governmental organization promoting Sustainable Forest Management (SFM)through independent third-party certification. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, PEFC provides timber and paper product buyers with an assurance mechanism to ensure that the sourced wood originates from inability-managed forests. 

Thanks to its fast development over the past 16-odd years, PEFC has become the world's largest forest certification scheme. To date, two thirds of the certified forests globally (roughly 263 million ha.) are certified to PEFC while more than 16,000 enterprises have obtained PEFC Chain of Custody (CoC) certification.

According to its statistics, PEFC has 39 national members and 36 endorsed national certification systems.The China Forest Certification Council(CFCC) is the governing body of the China Forest CertificationScheme(CFCS). The CFCS has been endorsed by PEFC in February, 2014.The endorsement of the CFCS by PEFC represents a significant milestone in the international forest certification arena and has exerted tremendous impact on countries in Asia-Pacific region. 

The Indonesian Forestry Certification Cooperation (IFCC) has achieved endorsement by PEFC in October, 2014.Japan is the fourth Asian country after Malaysia, China, Indonesia to become PEFC national member in November, 2014. A range of other countries in the region, including India, Myanmar, Nepal,Philippines, South Korea and the Thailand are advancing in national system development and exploring options for eventual international recognition by PEFC.

World-wide, Sweden is the third largest exporter of sawn timber. In Europe, the Swedish sawmilling industry holds a prominent position, as the second-largest producer and the largest exporter of sawn softwood. 

Swedish wood is used for furniture, floors, wall panels, mouldings, windows, doors, and as a construction material. Large investments in the modernization of the Swedish sawmills have resulted in automated high speed manufacturing technology. This enables the Swedish sawmills to produce high quality products according to customer demands in an efficient way. All Swedish timber comes from sustainably manager forests, where every harvested tree is replaced by several new planted seedlings.The total Swedish production of sawn timber is 17 million m3 whereof 12million m3 are exported. 

The sawn timber is mainly softwood: Swedish spruce/whitewood (Picea abies), and Swedish pine/redwood (Pinus sylvestris).Swedish Wood is a promotion organisation supported by the Swedish sawmill sector. Swedish Wood is a department within the Swedish Forest Industries Federation. For the last decade, Swedish Wood has been working to promote Swedish timber in China.

 

The American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) is an international non-profit trade association of the U.S. hardwood industry. AHEC represents over 100 U.S. hardwood exporters and the major U.S. hardwood product trade associations in the U.S.

AHEC provides the hardwood trade industry which includes importers and traders, architects, interior designers, contractors and furniture manufacturers with promotional assistance, technical information and sources of supply.  AHEC also provides information on hardwood species, grades and specifications, products (such as veneer, lumber, plywood, flooring, mouldings and dimensions) and its applications.

               

FrenchTimber is a gateway to a competitive and reliable supply. FrenchTimber is a tool created especially to facilitate the research of quality sawn timber. FrenchTimber distributes technical and economic information to international purchasers (importers, wholesalers, industrials) and trade consultants. FrenchTimber is also involved in a process aiming to ease the sawn timber supplies. 

Communication and research tools offered by FrenchTimber help bringing together relevant parties with the aim of achieving best match and best performance between offer and demand. French sawmills combine quality awareness, products expertise and ability to adapt their production to specific international demands. SHANGHAI TIMBER TRADE ASSOCIATION (abbreviated STTA), was established in April 2003,which is a trans-department,transownership industrial non-profit social organization with the status of a legal person of the timber circulation, processing and related enterprises and institutions of Shanghai and surrounding areas.There are 11 branches of STTA,such as redwood professional committee, multiplayer solid wood floor professional committee, stair professional committee, softwood professional committee professional committee, decorative materials committee, engineering wood committee, wood veneer committee, household materials committee.

      

Taicang Timber & Wood Products Distribution Association(abbreviated TTDA) was established in December,2012 approved by Taicang City Civil Affairs Bureau.TTDA is a regional, industrial, non-profit social organization composed by the regional enterprises engaged in wood and wood products trade, processing, logistics and other industries and relevant administrative departments of and individuals voluntarily for the realization of common wishes,which is a member of the Taicang City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Taicang City Chamber of Commerce, China Timber and Wood Products Distribution Association’s vice president units, the China Timber circulation Association,working under the guidance of CTWPDA and TCCCI .

Shunde Association of Wood Industry was established in March 2013.It’s a professional wood association covering leading wood related business participants such as wood production enterprises, wood processing enterprises, wood distribution and logistics enterprises, wholesale markets and etc. Their mission is to create a Non-profit organization that would help to advance and promote the wood industry, while bringing valuable resources and information to its members.

With nearly two decades development, Shunde Association of Wood Industry has become the leading position in rubber wood industry and operates the biggest scale of Rubber wood. Shunde, by importing 2 million cubic metres rubber wood each year with 25% growth rate, has become the most important importer of Thai’s rubber.90% of Thai’s rubber were exported to China, of which, 80% are imported by Shunde.

      

Founded in March 2003,Pizhou Timber Distribution Association is an independent social corporate body registered in Civil Affairs Department, including 52 plywood export enterprises as members.After more than four years of hard work, it has expanded to 312 members, including 265 man-made board production enterprises, 47 man-made materials machinery and equipment production enterprises.It is the vice-president level group of China Timber and Wood Distribution Association&Jiangsu Wood industry Association.
